George Abbot School is delighted to be hosting this opportunity for Year 2, 3 and final year undergraduates and those studying towards a master’s degree.

The Teaching Internship Programme is designed to give interested university students the opportunity to experience life working in a school, with the aim of encouraging the next generation of teachers into the profession. You receive payment and participate in a Department for Education opportunity that is great for your CV. George Abbot School is a really large and highly successful secondary school in Guildford. We have 220 members of staff and there is always something going on. This is a great place to experience the world of secondary education. Our community is inclusive and wellbeing is a key priority. Our teachers are experts.

To be eligible to apply, you will need to have the right to work in the UK.

You need to be interested in teaching one of the following subjects and be studying for a related undergraduate or master’s degree:

  • chemistry
  • computing
  • design and technology
  • languages
  • maths
  • physics

The three-week programme at George Abbot School will provide interns with experience within and beyond the classroom:

  • observing experienced classroom practitioners
  • taking part in teaching
  • experiencing a range of enrichment events
  • learning from specialists in the areas of pastoral provision, SEN, safeguarding and curriculum

The programme will run from Monday 22 June to Friday 10 July, and interns will be paid £455 per week, subject to attendance.
