Introduction

Welcome to George Abbot School; we are a large, high performing, academically non-selective secondary school with a very successful sixth form. We have well maintained school buildings and plentiful green spaces. Our community is proud of our ethos of care, honesty, equality and respect. We have strong teachers and superb pastoral care. We are ambitious for every child.

We are a member of the Learning Partners Academy Trust and work closely with a number of partner schools, not only within the trust but nationally

Our Mission

Academic excellence within a strong community of equality and respect, where potential and opportunity are realised.

Our Motto

Non sibi sed toti – Not for oneself, but for all

At George Abbot, our community prioritises positive relationships and altruism. We care about each other and understand our responsibility to each other – we treasure the diversity of our community and truly value every young person’s individuality.

Character

We have a deep commitment to diversity and respect, character development and wellbeing. We want all of our students to develop the character traits that will prepare them to be successful adults who make the world a better place. We focus on nine qualities that we value as central to our ethos – these are:

Parent Partnership

We know that a positive partnership between school and home is vital if your child is to achieve their potential. To that end, we ensure that school communication is regular and relevant. We send a whole school Bulletin fortnightly with news of our students’ achievements and reminders of upcoming events. Parents/carers are invited to one parents’ evening per year to discuss your child’s progress with their subject teachers and one additional appointment with your child’s Form Tutor. Students receive either two or three written progress reports per academic year depending on their age. You can see live information about your child’s attendance, behaviour, rewards and homework via our online school information system. We invite all parents to an annual parents’ information evening to preface each academic year and offer workshops on topics such as online safety, positive mental health and other safeguarding themes. We have a PTA and really encourage parents to become an active part of our community.

The education of young people is a privilege that we do not underestimate. We provide all that you would seek, and more, for your child. Our young people are our finest ambassadors.
