House Sports Day 2019
House Sports Day 2019 was a huge success. The students, kitted out in their House colours, looked fantastic. All students took part in House Sports Day, whether it be participating in the indoor activities or outside performing in a track or field event.
Throughout the day there were some incredible athletic performances, including achieving school records in shot putt, javelin and relay. It was great to see so many competitors representing their House in style.
The afternoon session opened with the mascot race. The mascots were created by the Year 8s in an indoor activity. The costume was worn by a Year 9 student and a 100 metre race was to come! With costumes falling apart with every step taken, it was certainly a great spectacle for the whole school. This raised the positive atmosphere amongst the House supporters for the start of the ‘blue ribbon’ event: the 100 metres. A number of excellent times were ran with lots of personal bests.
The relays closed the track events. Again, some of George Abbot’s elite sprinters were on show, superb technique and changeovers led to podium finishes and a school record in the Year 9 girls race. The 8 x 50 metre races were another great spectator event. The race had four boys and four girls running 50 metres each. It was wonderful seeing so many students participate in physical activity.
This year’s closing ceremony was Mrs Haste’s Pro Excel dance troop. A lovely way to end an awesome day!
