Sixth Form students flocked to the annual George Abbot Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday 11th September at Holy Trinity Church in Guildford. The celebration marked the conclusion of the Sixth Formers’ personal and educational journey through the school. The event recognised and rewarded them not only for academic success (George Abbot continues to be one of the country’s top performing sixth forms) but also for their acquisition and development of new skills and citizenship work within the school and wider community.
The keynote address for 2018 was delivered by former student and Paralympian, Georgina Hermitage. Georgina took up athletics at George Abbot and went on to achieve huge success notably at the Rio Paralympics in 2016 winning gold medals in the Women’s T37 100m and T37 400m, achieving a new Paralympic record.
Tom Robinson, Director of Sixth Form, commented:
‘The graduation ceremony marks the end of another excellent and inspirational year for the George Abbot Sixth Form. We take huge pride in the academic achievements of these young people as well as their overall development, as these young people prepare to take their next steps in life. It has also been wonderful to welcome Georgina back to school. She has been an inspirational presence today and a great reminder of the amazing achievements of so many of our Old Gabbotonians.’
