A LEVEL SUCCESS AT GEORGE ABBOT SCHOOL
George Abbot Sixth Form and staff are celebrating the continued excellent performance of their Sixth Form students in A Level and BTEC examinations.
This year 74 A* grades were awarded to George Abbot students – placing them amongst the highest performing students in the country and accounting for 12% of our overall achievement.
A further 22% achieved A grades and 62% of results were awarded at the A*-B grade level, whilst 83% of results were awarded A*-C grades. The overall pass rate was 99%.
These results ensure that the school maintains its position as one of the top non-selective schools in the country for A Level outcomes.
Sixth Form students also achieved great success in their BTEC courses this year. These vocational courses form an important part of our curriculum and have given students the opportunity to secure high levels of attainment and develop key vocational based skills. This year 75% of grades were secured at Distinction or Distinction*, which is the equivalent of a top A level grade.
At this early stage it appears that the vast majority of students have achieved their first choice university, further information will be released in due course when it becomes available. Three students have achieved the grades required for them to meet their offers to study at Oxford or Cambridge, with a further 6 students securing places to read Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. A special mention should go to our top performer, Suzie Lewin, who secured a place at Cambridge and achieved a stunning 4 grades at A*.
Tom Robinson, Director of Sixth Form, commented: “This has been another excellent year at George Abbot. We pride ourselves on high levels of academic achievement but also on the development of the whole student. These results are just reward for the hard work and dedication with which our students have committed themselves to their studies. In a shifting educational landscape our students and staff have risen to the challenge of the new examinations and we are delighted to celebrate these successes with them.”
Sixth Form students will be attending our annual George Abbot Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday 11th September at Holy Trinity Church in Guildford. At the celebration students collect the George Abbot Graduation Certificate, which recognises and rewards them not only for academic success, but also for their acquisition and development of new skills and citizenship work within the school and wider community.
